Easy Walking Tacos are a fun, mess-free twist on the classic taco—served straight from a chip bag! Perfect for busy weeknights, parties, game day, or camping, these portable tacos are fully customizable and packed with Tex-Mex flavor. Quick to make, easy to clean up, and always a crowd favorite.

Main Ingredients:

  • 6 snack-size bags of chips (Fritos, Doritos, or tortilla chips)

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey, chicken, or plant-based crumbles)

  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or 2 tbsp homemade blend)

  • ¾ cup water

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican cheese blend

  • 1½ cups shredded lettuce

  • 1 cup diced tomatoes

  • ½ cup sour cream

  • ½ cup salsa or taco sauce

Optional Toppings:

  • Jalapeños (sliced)

  • Black beans or corn

  • Avocado or guacamole

  • Diced onions or green onions

  • Chopped cilantro

  • Hot sauce

Instructions

  • Cook the meat: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Once browned, drain the fat.

  • Season: Stir in the taco seasoning and ¾ cup water. Simmer for 5 minutes until the meat is fully seasoned and the liquid is mostly absorbed.

  • Prepare toppings: While the meat cooks, shred the lettuce, dice the tomatoes, and set out all toppings.

  • Assemble tacos: Lightly crush each chip bag and open it. Add about ⅓ cup of taco meat, then layer on toppings: cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, salsa, and any extras.

 

  • Serve: Hand out forks and enjoy straight from the bag!

  • Use lean ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter option.

  • Set up a taco bar for parties so guests can build their own!

  • Store meat and toppings separately in the fridge for up to 4 days.

  • Cut bags open lengthwise for easier eating with a fork.
