What’s the Difference Between a Blondie and a Brookie?

Blondies are a rich, buttery dessert bar that’s perfect for anyone who loves a sweet, non-chocolate treat. With their golden-brown color and chewy texture, these bars are a great alternative to traditional brownies, offering a lighter, yet still indulgent, dessert. Follow this easy recipe to make classic blondies at home!

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 ½ cups (300g) brown sugar, packed

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup (175g) chocolate chips (optional)

  • 1 cup (150g) chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal.

  • Mix Wet Ingredients:
    In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth and creamy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until fully combined.

  • Add Dry Ingredients:
    In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.

  • Add Optional Ingredients:
    If you’re using chocolate chips and/or chopped nuts, fold them into the batter.

  • Bake:
    Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The top should be golden brown.

 

  • Cool and Serve:
    Let the blondies cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut them into squares and enjoy!
